Maite Imaz, the cross-curricular knowledge of a terminologist
Abstract
This interview is a chronicle with commentary of the career of a female translator who represents a line of modern translation in the Basque Country. Maite Imaz began her basic studies in Basque, at a time when the Basque language was prohibited. Since then, all of her studies and her professional career have been linked to languages and translation; not only did she study Basque and Spanish, but she also went abroad to study English. She has a long history of translation into Basque, which began to establish itself in the audiovisual media and in Basque institutions once the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country was passed, until she earned an official administrative position as head of terminology. She was also a very early user of computer-assisted translation resources. She has collaborated in teaching related to the profession and has done considerable work in EIZIE, the Association of Translators, Correctors and Interpreters of the Basque Language. She has written many articles in different communications media.
