Requirements
Professional requirements
One of the following conditions must be met:
- Translation and/or interpreting studies in any university or school in the Basque Country or abroad.
- To have translated or published two books from or into Basque, or to have translated an equivalent number of pages.
- A minimum of a year’s full-time work as a translator or a proofreader, Basque being either the source or the target language.
- A minimum of 50 hours’ work as an interpreter, Basque being either the source or the target language.
Linguistic requirements
To become a member of EIZIE, you need to prove your knowledge of the Basque language in one of the following ways:
- by means of an official certificate
- by proving that you have done a translation (of at least 20 pages) from or into Basque.
Supporting documents
All the requirements mentioned above must be proved by supporting documents.
If you cannot prove the above requirements by means of supporting documents but have worked in the area of translation, interpreting, or proofreading, you may submit a recommendation from three members of EIZIE.
Other membership options:
- Undergraduate students of T&I who are in their 3rd or 4th year can apply.
- Professionals of other fields can also apply provided that they share the objectives of the association and carry out activities related to translation, interpreting or proofreading. Such activities must be proven by supporting documents.

Application
Applications for the membership must be submitted to EIZIE along with the following documents:
- Application form (in Basque)
- Translations file (in Basque)
- A copy of the ID
- A photo
- The CV
Fees
Annual fee (2022): 78 euros (39 for students)
Entrance fee: 36 euros, except for members under the age of 26 and students

Honorary members
EIZIE named several writers and translators from previous generations as honorary members, with the aim of recognising their work and their contribution to the Basque translation.
