'Pioneers of Translation' collection
It's been a long time since EIZIE committed itself with the task of bringing back to life the works of writers and translators from past generations, in recognition of their contribution. This collection, Itzultzaile aitzindariak (Pioneers of Translation), is the result of that initiative.
Uda gau bateko ametsa (2015)
The latest issue of our collection has been published in 2015. It is the translation of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream by Bingen Ametzaga, unpublished so far. Elizabete Manterola and Xabier Irujo have been in charge of the edition, and have also written a prologue each, one concerning the political and historical context upon which the translation took place, and on Ametzaga's translation the other.
Enblemak (2010)
In 2010 we issued an unpublished translation by Juan Mari Lekuona. It is the facsimile of the translation of Emblemas, a collection of poems by the Spanish writer Clara Janés, on which the translator wrote the translations. The publication of this edition made by Jon Kortazar and Paulo Kortazar was supported by the City Council of Oiartzun and the Department of Culture of the Basque Government.
The first three translations of this collection where published in 2003, 2004 and 2005 respectively, with the collaboration of CEDRO. Inazio Mujika, a writer and editor himself, was in charge of all editions. Mr. Mujika selected and revised the texts, wrote the introduction and prepared a brief glossary of dialectal words (it is to be noted that unification of the Basque language was not attained until 1968; therefore, the texts that were published were the original translations, in the three cases, into the Gipuzkoan dialect).
