In memoriam: Piarres Andiazabal
Abstract
Priest Piarres Andiazabal, 97, died on May 16 in Cambo. These lines written in his memory celebrate his long and vibrant life. First, the different functions that he carried out in the diocese of Bayonne both as an instructor and as an administrator. Second, the tremendous work he achieved in the Basque language: he was a devoted collaborator in the Basque media and indefatigable translator of liturgical texts, to the extent that he well deserved the title of “father of the liturgy in the Basque language.” And let us not forget his contribution to the compilation of Basque hymns. He was a modest man who was named an honorary member of both the Royal Academy of the Basque Language and EIZIE, the Association of Translators, Correctors and Interpreters of the Basque Language.
