Basque subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
Abstract
The availability of subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing (SDH) is common in some countries and this type of subtitling is a regular research topic in the academic field of audiovisual translation. Nevertheless, little has been said about Basque SDH and, to fill that gap, the author wrote her 2018 dissertation, in which she analyzes the presence of Basque SDH as well as people’s knowledge, use and opinions of such SDH. This article discusses some of the data from that research and presents SDH as a means of promoting both accessibility and the Basque language.
