A History of Basque Dubbing

Since its inception, dubbing in Basque has been closely associated with Basque Television (Euskal Telebista). Indeed, the infrastructure necessary for Basque dubbing first began to be developed in 1981, when it became clear that foreign works would be fundamental in rounding out the programming of the future Euskal Telebista. This infrastructure initially fell under the egis of the Basque Government and was designed to provide training and practical experience to actors, translators and technicians. In 1982, the field was first recognized as a profession with the birth of formal studies in dubbing. Since then, Basque dubbing has continued to gain ground (in the movies, subtitling, videos, DVDs, etc.) and, in collaboration with the linguistics department of Euskal Telebista, has been involved in improving and refurbishing the linguistic model for dubbing.
