Sexual and gender non-conformity: summary of a study on 'Stone Butch Blues'

The purpose of this article is to introduce the connections between translation and non-conforming gender identities through an account of a Master’s thesis. Queer translation studies are approached via feminist translation theories and various elements of the corpus are analyzed based on Toury’s translation norms to examine, from the macro level to the micro level, how the self-perception, desires and sexual practices of the protagonist are depicted and translated. Language is an essential tool for constructing identities and making space for new realities, and translation can provide significant insights.
