The troubles of a translator
Maria Garikano

Abstract

This paper approaches the problems which a translator had to face when translating into Basque. The stanting point is particular instances arising from her own experience sea-faring vocabulary, languages not subject to a norm, difficulties inherent to the classics, typographic issues, etc.. Then, the needs and pending matters posed by Basque translation are tackled, always keeping in mind that many of the problems which as yet remain to be solved are actually due to the lack of a large enough tradition in translation, which forces translators to implement their own personal solutions.
