Summary

Ursula K. Le Guin (1929-2018) was one of the most important authors of science fiction, but it wasn’t until 2021 that the first Basque translation of one of her works was published: Oihan hitzean mundua. On the occasion of this translation, in this article we first examine the place that science fiction has occupied and now occupies in Basque letters, considering not only works written in Basque but especially those translated into Basque. We also introduce some key aspects about the author and the book, and then detail the issues, headaches and challenges that arose throughout the translation process, together with the decisions that were made.
