Gender analysis of narrative translations from 1990 to 2017
Itziar Murgiondo Agirre

Abstract

This article carries out a quantitative analysis of the gender of translators of narrative works published between 1990 and 2017. After a brief summary of previous works on the topic, the methodology is explained: the period of time and literary genre under consideration are defined, and the database is described. Next, the following are examined based on information from the Nor da Nor database: how many women translate works of this type; what changes have there been in the percentages of female translators; what differences are there with respect to the female presence between works selected in anonymous translation competitions and those selected other ways; and how many works translated by women have been published by each publishing house.
