Basque translation today: the function of publishing houses in Basque literary translation
Abstract
This article examines literary translation into Basque. However, instead of analyzing the linguistic characteristics of such translations, we investigate on the situation behind them, focusing on the role of publishing houses in this process. Given that this is a field about which little has been studied to date, there are few previous works on this topic and therefore, the conclusions presented here are based on information obtained in direct contact with ten publishing houses. We must not forget, however, that there are more publishing houses than those interviewed that publish literary works in Basque translation, and the conclusions presented here should not be taken as absolute.
