How to translate into Basque a text planned in Malinke and written in French: Ahmadou Kourouma’s 'The Suns of Independence'
In this article, translator Aiora Jaka describes the translation process of the postcolonial novel The Suns of Independence, by Malinke writer Ahmadou Kourouma: how she sought information about the author and about the work, what the special characteristics of the novel are, what difficulties she had in translating a French text with a smattering of Malinke into Basque, and how she tried to reflect in the target text certain ungrammatical or incorrect structures that appeared in dialogue in the source text.
