Wuthering Heights
Abstract
With the translation into Basque of the classic Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, the present article carries out a critical analysis of the work of its translator, Irene Aldasoro. Given the extent and depth of the work of translating Brontë’s novel, the article cannot carry out an analysis of similar scope, and therefore cites only the most relevant details of Aldasoro’s translation, analyzed through comparison between the translation and the original text. Among other issues, the article discusses the translation of the title and the use of different dialects of Basque, but emphasizes the formal style of the work, providing examples from both the original text and its translation.
