Questions in Pinter's 'The Lover'
Garazi Arrula

Abstract

This article discusses a Master's dissertation in Linguistics defended last September, whose object was a study of the discursive functions of interrogative sentences in Basque. A classification of these discursive functions is proposed, based on the play The Lover by Harold Pinter and on its translation into Basque. The purposes of this article are, first, to analyze the structures that each language (English and Basque) uses to accomplish the functions of interrogative sentences and, second, to carry out a brief comparative study of the work in question and its translation.
