'Basically, everything is translation': Joseba Sarrionandia and Translation
Aiora Jaka Irizar (UPV/EHU)

This article presents a brief summary of the doctoral thesis entitled 'Itzulpenari buruzko gogoeta eta itzulpen-praktika Joseba Sarrionandiaren lanetan' (Translation and Reflections on Translation in the Works of Joseba Sarrionandia), defended in November of 2011 in the Department of Liberal Arts of the University of the Basque Country. After describing various theories of translation, the author presents Basque translators' ideas about translation prior to Joseba Sarrionandia. The final part of the article examines Sarrionandia's own reflections on translation, and analyzes how these ideas are manifested in practice. In addition to examining which works and authors Sarrionandia translates, the author also analyzes how he translates them, demonstrating that the translation strategies of which he makes use are consistent with the ideas supported by postmodern theories of translation.
