Abstract

Chinese writer Lin Shu translated numerous literary works into Classical Mandarin Chinese in the late 19th century, applying for that purpose a peculiar method of translation: he had assistants translate texts for him directly and orally into simple Chinese, and he then reinterpreted these 'readings' and put them into Classical Mandarin.
