Greek poets of the 20th century
Koldo Ruiz de Azua

Abstract

In the 20th century, Greece, the European Union country that so often appears in the media due to its economic and political problems, has had an enormous cultural output in various areas including literature, cinema, and music, and this production continues, despite multiple difficulties. Nevertheless, its artistic output suffers the same lack of recognition as its history and culture among western Europeans. And among the Basques: a European minority language is largely unknown by an even more minority language. Greek is not part of our canon, as if the iron curtain between Catholic and Orthodox still existed. These poems bring Elytis, Seferis, and Ritsos to mind.
