In memoriam: Basilio Sarobe Aldabe
Eustasio Etxezarreta

Abstract

Basilio Sarobe Aldabe was born in Lesaka (Navarre) in 1929, and was ordained as a priest at age 23 at the International Eucharistic Congress of Barcelona. He carried out his pastoral work for 61 years in the parish of Sunbilla (Navarre). He retired at 83, moving into the Good Shepherd retirement home for priests in Pamplona, where he spent the last six years of his life. He died on December 1, 2019. There are two features of Basilio’s life that are particularly noteworthy: his lifelong devotion as the priest of his parish, and his strong dedication to the liturgy in Basque. Among the many aspects of Basilio’s multifaceted history, his dedication to the liturgy in the Basque language deserves special consideration, especially for his contributions to the publication of Irakurgaiak, the Biblical Lectionary of the Second Vatican Council.
