On linguistic economy (and II)
Xabier Aristegieta

Abstract

In the first part of this article, which was published last year, a specific concept of linguistic economy was proposed, and the author identified and examined the two primary problems that arise when in creating texts insufficient importance is granted to this concept: the tediousness and difficulty of combination. In this second part, various guidelines are suggested for better aligning texts in Basque with the demands of linguistic economy. Although some of these guidelines are valid for any language, the article focuses particularly on useful resources that are specific to Basque, including the fundamental elements of the sentence, such as the noun and its formation, adjectives, suffixes, and verbs.
