Itziar Zorrakin-Goikoetxea and Maitane Junguitu Dronda

This paper focuses on the concept of video game localization, aiming to contribute to establishing the relevant Basque terminology. First, we explain the fundamentals of the video game localization process, which is not just a translation, but an adaptation of language, culture and imagery. It may also include the adaptation of technical features. Next, we discuss localization levels, target languages, video game characteristics, and text diversity. We also establish the professional profile of the localizer, and the knowledge that is necessary to work in this profession. Finally, we discuss the situation of the Basque language in the field of video games.
