Literary translation often presents us with challenges that are as beautiful as they are complex and among them, word games are surely the ones that cause translators the most difficulties. These structures can be of all kinds, as can the solutions they are given in their translations. This article explains how the word games in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes have been translated into Basque, making use of a previous analysis of the strategies used in translations into close languages and explaining the decisions made.
