Summary
The ways we have used to date to borrow gender-marked words from Spanish are outdated and will seem more and more old-fashioned and unattractive to Basque speakers since Spanish is breaking new ground and Basque speakers who have a direct relationship with it will be following a different path. This article discusses this concern and, with the help of some examples, asks that women not be excluded in such cases and that the gender system of the Basque language be protected.
