After 30 years… persist or die
Xabier Olarra

Abstract

This article presents a subjective evaluation of the 30 years of existence of the Igela publishing house. The problems involved in founding a literary publishing house that would exclusively publish translations, the initial planning, the primary objectives, and the difficulties that arose right from the beginning are meticulously described, including the early rather naïve enthusiasm and a ruthless market. The article next describes the measures taken to resolve the difficulties faced by the publishing house after ten years’ experience and the solution found in the face of so many obstacles: increase the number of people who read in Basque.
