Nuclear interpreters, on the other side of the double fence
Ana Blazquez

Abstract

Ana Blazquez is an interpreter with an extensive career. In this article she discusses interpretation in nuclear center inspection teams. It is an aspect of the profession of interpretation that is not well known, and that requires a high level of both qualification and dedication; there is clearly a certain amount of risk involved as well: long work sessions with high technical content that require prior preparation on the part of the interpreter and that may sometimes take place in a dangerous or harmful environment. Nevertheless, the author demonstrates clearly the extent to which such linguistic intermediation is necessary, and does it with a drop of humor.
