Iñigo Roque's purpose in this article was to analyze a translation into Basque of Julio Cortázar's La autopista del sur [The Southern Thruway] completed seventeen years ago by translator Gerardo Markuleta under the title Hegoaldeko autopista. For this purpose, he examines the stylistic characteristics of the text and the problems they pose in translating it into Basque, as well as the solutions that the translator finds for each of these stylistic difficulties or peculiarities. The analysis concludes with a discussion of the aspects in which the translation has aged well and of other factors that illustrate the technical evolution and changes in the level of standardization of the language that have occurred during the period of time in question.
