Compulsory use of the proof-reader
Abstract
This article offers a classical text on the work of the proof reader: the lecture entitled «On the Importance of the Proof Reader» given by the publisher John Wilson in 1901 before the members of The Odd Volume Club. But before getting on to this, the author is keen to show that basically there is not such a big difference between the situation then and today, and that Wilson's text continues to be valid.
