J.R. Etxebarria, scientist and translator (entretien)
Karlos del Olmo

Abstract

Jose Ramon Etxebarria has had a long career in teaching, in Basque culture, in politics, in scientific research and in other fields, but his activity has always revolved around the hub of Basque. For example, we have the well-known controversy that arose when a certain politician cast doubt on the so-called inability of Basque to expressing cutting-edge science content adequately; Etxebarria stoutly disproved this opinion by presenting his PhD thesis in Basque. But in the course of this interview he reviews his career as translator and corrector, areas in which he clearly expresses the vision, experiences and reconciliation of a scientist to tasks that have traditionally been linked to the world of arts.
