Remembering Axun Aierbe

Abstract
Axun Aierbe Mendizabal (1968-2008) began young in her work as a translator: she had just begun her university studies in Basque Philology when she was offered the job of translator for the Ibarra City Council, and from then on her professional career was always linked to translation, though she worked in many different areas in her brief but productive life. My article begins with the tribute paid her on April 1, 2009 by the University of the Basque Country, where she was a professor and vice dean, and in which I had the privilege of participating as a representative of EIZIE (Euskal Itzultzaile, Zuzentzaile eta Interpreteen Elkartea; the Association of Translators, Correctors and Interpreters of the Basque Language); it offers a brief review of her various accomplishments as a translator in the administration, as a professor of Translation and Interpretation at the University of the Basque Country and as a researcher throughout her professional career. She was writing her doctoral dissertation on the Basque used in the administration, and had given many talks and papers at conferences and seminars before her untimely death due to a brain hemorrhage.
