Principles for the New Translator of Dramatic Works
Translation: Kristin Addis
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present a series of practical conclusions arrived at through more than twenty years' experience in the field of interpretation (Basque/Spanish). The challenges faced by translators (the term interpreter was not yet familiar to us) without specific training in the subject in the early 1980s, that is, when the new administration was first launched, served to identify the principle problems that we deal with in the field. It was thus largely through practice that we arrived at solutions to the problems we had identified. The identified problems and their solutions provide the content and meaning of the course, Practice in Basque/Spanish Interpretation, taught as part of the new degree program in Translation and Interpretation offered by the University of the Basque Country.
