Struggles and troubles of a translation. The Encyclopaedia of the Dead by Danilo Kiš in Basque
Abstract
In this article I've tried to extract a series of points for reflection arising from the problems I faced while translating The Encyclopaedia of the Dead by Danilo Kiš, and also to set out a few ideas which may be of help to other translators, above all when the translator, not knowing the source language, finds himself obliged to work with two languages: for example, the importance of the consultant who feeds information to the translator; not to use both languages for translation at the same time, but one after the other; and the need for a thorough knowledge of the writer and their work.
