Speaking about the Minaberri grant
Thanks to a Minaberri grant, the author of this article had the opportunity to translate writer Laurie Halse Anderson’s novel Speak (Basque title: Utzi kontatzen). In addition to the aid provided by the grant, the author also had the assistance of mentor Aiora Jaka in translating this young adult work, which greatly helped to bridge the gaps that beginning translators often have. Indeed, the mentor was more than just a supervisor or editor: she was a voice of experience, advisor, teacher, distance gauge, counterweight, emotional support and collaborator.
