Bicentennial of Dostoyevsky’s birth
Roberto Serrano

Summary

Dostoyevsky was born in Moscow in 1821 and died in St. Petersburg in 1881. His first publication was a translation of Balzac. This French author undoubtedly had a decisive influence on Dostoyevsky’s long and productive later work. In Dostoyevsky’s novels, the human spirit stands out, with all of its imperfections and achievements. His works have been translated into many languages, and many have been the translators who have dedicated their time and skill to transfer his message from Russian to a great number of the languages of the world. A few of his works have been translated into Basque, but many others remain to be translated. As a writer, Dostoyevsky is either loved or hated, but he always makes a deep impression on his readers.
