The language of texts translated into Basque vs. that of texts written in Basque: summary of a doctoral dissertation
Isabel Etxeberria Ramírez

The author of this article presents the main findings of her doctoral dissertation, entitled Euskarazko literatur testu itzulietako eta ez-itzulietako lexikoen konparazio-saioak (A comparative study of the lexicons of translated and non-translated literary texts in Basque). The dissertation compares the language of narrative works translated into Basque in recent years with that of works created in Basque in terms of lexicon. Specifically, it analyzes lexical richness, the tendency toward nuance or precision, and the inclination toward lexical tradition/innovation. For this purpose, the usage of three sets of terms was compared between a corpus of texts translated into Basque and another corpus of texts written in Basque. The three groups were terms for naming colors, adverbs expressing time, and expressions that describe emotions and feelings.
