The two sides of the coin: CYL translated from French to Basque on both sides of the border
Naroa Zubillaga Gomez

Summary

This article analyzes the translation into Basque of French children’s and young people’s literature (CYL), taking into account both translations published in the French Basque Country and those published in the Spanish Basque Country. The article presents the results from this cataloguing, which show, first, that the publication of translations of CYL from French to Basque is more abundant in the Spanish Basque Country and, second, that mainly works aimed at the youngest readers and early readers are translated. Beyond cataloguing, the article looks at grants and awards on both sides of the border for translations of CYL, and concludes that the administrative border gives rise to the creation of a systemic border.
