Summary
Juan Kruz Igerabide is a teacher in Primary Education who holds a degree in Hispanic Philology and a doctorate in Basque Philology. After several years as a Primary and Secondary School teacher, he became a professor at the University of the Basque Country, in the Basque Philology Department and in the Basque Language Service. He has translated various works of world literature into Basque, such as The Golden Ass by Apuleius, children’s versions of Homer’s Odyssey and Ovid’s Metamorphoses, and adaptations of a number of Greek myths. In this interview, he discusses Basque oral tradition, Basque literature, translation, creativity, language, etc. Although he has won various awards, he is humble and sincere. He has often published poems in translation in this journal. He recently retired, though he continues to write and translate.
