Idoia Santamaría Urkaregi

Abstract

After an introduction that establishes the position of the collection of stories Simultan (Three Paths to the Lake) within Ingeborg Bachmann’s work, the article discusses the difficulties encountered in the translation process of each of the stories in the book and the chosen solutions in each case for their translation into Basque. Relevant examples are presented and illustrated with selections taken not only from the original text and its Basque translation, but also from translations into English, French and Spanish, in order to demonstrate the strategies used in each language. The article closes with a brief reflection on language and on Bachmann’s female protagonists.
