Report on the workshop entitled “Traduint Lauaxeta al català” [“Translating Lauaxeta into Catalan”] organized by the Barcelona Basque Center for the 2018 Literaldia festival
Abstract
For the 2018 Literaldia festival, we organized a workshop to translate poems by Lauaxeta into Catalan, with the idea of later publishing a small anthology if possible. As our first step, we held two meetings in which fifteen people worked together to translate the Basque texts directly into Catalan. The complexity of the task was clear from the beginning because the author’s “voice” (style, register, tone) was particularly difficult to capture.
