The wonderful universe of the translations of 'Alice in Wonderland'
Jose Manuel López Gaseni (Special supplement: Making the foreign one’s own)

In honor of the recent celebration of the 150th anniversary of the publication of Alice in Wonderland, the author reviews the history of the work and its reception, and examines the characteristics that made it a canonic work. Next there is a bibliographical review of the primary comparative studies on translations of Lewis Carrolls work into other languages of the world. The inclusion of an apocryphal chapter in one of the Spanish versions is presented as an example of one of the many manipulations carried out in the translation of this book. Finally, the versions of the work in the Basque language are listed, and the characteristics of the most recent translation into Basque, which was published in 2015, are described in detail.
