From the Typewriter to Translation Memories

Abstract
At the invitation of colleague and EIZIE (Euskal Itzultzaile, Zuzentzaile eta Interpreteen Elkartea; the Association of Translators, Correctors and Interpreters of the Basque Language) member Karlos Del Olmo, I present here some of my experiences as a translator, the results of that experience, the issues I faced in the beginning and those of today, my reflections, etc.; in short, my experiences in the world of translation and Basque. In this work, I have tried to present the different linguistic situations that I myself experienced, but that were probably also experienced by many Basque speakers of my generation. I begin with my school days, a period of incomprehension and rejection, the 1950s, and the 1960s, at the end of which movements were initiated for Basquification and literacy in the Basque Country. I continue with my professional period, from 1970 to 2007, touching on my most important creations of the 1970s, my change in profession, fundamental works and production of the 1980s, the technological changes of the 1990s and 2000s, the Law of Basque, linguistic profiles and their development, and plans for the use of Basque, etc., both in public administration and in my own world.
