Conversation with Xabier Queiruga
Amaia Apalauza, Iñigo Roque

Abstract

Six years ago the publishing house Pasazaite burst onto the scene in our small literary world with the intention of “trafficking” in foreign contemporary literature translated into Basque. Since then, it has published a dozen books in translation. Interested in the history of this publishing house, two translators met with its editor, Xabier Queiruga; first, to find out where he got the idea of creating a publishing house of this type and second, to discuss literature in translation: the situation in Galicia and here, financial assistance, politics, translators, etc.

The reader will find in Queiruga’s words something that is rarely found: the viewpoint of a person with experience, but who has not yet lost his capacity for surprise.
