Behind the eye: Mary Oliver
Ane Garcia Lopez

Summary

Poet Mary Oliver (1935-2019) followed the path laid in the 19th century by contemplative and naturalistic US poets such as Walt Whitman. Following that tradition, Oliver wove her poems by observing nature and recognizing the threat and miracle she sensed in her womb, and she was an author as prolific as she was beloved. She found her raw material in the most subtle and seemingly insignificant changes, and offers the tiniest epiphanies, as if they could capture the precise moment when a flower opens, a moment as insignificant as it is enlightening. This short anthology includes some of her poems in Basque.
