Basque Literature in Spanish: Translation, Self-Translation

Abstract
Bilingual environments are always a privileged field of observation for translation, all the more so in the case of literary translation when the authors themselves know both languages perfectly. To analyze the different aspects of this phenomenon, SENEZ brought together three Basque writers who have also translated their own works or the works of others into Spanish.
In their double capacity as translators and writers, Jon Alonso, Harkaitz Cano and Juan Luis Zabala reflect in this round table discussion on some of the characteristics of contemporary translation of Basque literature into Spanish. Following their initial conversation, they raise controversial issues such as self-translation and its limitations and the relationship between author and translator.
