Visit to the Literaturia festival - 2016
For this activity, which was scheduled as part of the New Translators project, we invited the translators to visit the literary festival Literaturia, which takes place annually in Zarauz.
On Saturday, May 21, translators Barbara Pregelj from Slovenia, Laura Liubinavičiῡte from Lithuania, and Kasia Sosnowska and Matylda Figlerowicz from Poland met with various translators from EIZIE. Matylda is a member of the second group, who will participate in a one-month residency at the boarding school.
The translators had the chance to talk with writers, editors and translators that they met at the festival, including, among others, Susa editor Gorka Arrese, and Elkar writer and editor Xabier Mendiguren Elizegi.
They also participated in some of the activities available at Literaturia: at the Modelo cinema, they attended a showing of poetry videos subtitled in Basque, the fruit of a workshop organized by EIZIE that morning. They also enjoyed the premiere of Mr. Señora, performed by Metrokoadroka.
Galician poet and translator Isaac Xubin joined us for dinner, and he and the translators shared their experiences.
The translators also participated in the preparation of a documentary produced by Signo Digital, in which they spoke one by one (in their respective languages) about their residency here, about learning the language, about direct translation between minority languages (without resorting to a "lingua franca"), about the selection of works by Kirmen Uribe for their projects, etc.
The New Translators and the translators from EIZIE were delighted with their visit, which was deemed to be a great pleasure (plazer hutsa)!
