Taxes for translators: basic information for the self-employed - 2008

A course entitled Taxes for translators: basic information for the self-employed was offered by the Association of Translators, Correctors and Interpreters of the Basque Language (Euskal Itzultzaile, Zuzentzaile eta Interpreteen Elkartea, EIZIE) in San Sebastian on June 20 and 21 of this year.

The purpose of the course was to provide basic information on taxes for translators who either are self-employed or who wish to establish themselves as self-employed; it was very well received by the participants.

Tax expert Arantza Gorriz from the tax consulting firm DOSERSA helped the translators to improve their knowledge of tax law. From the point of establishing oneself as self-employed for the purpose of the Business Tax (Impuesto sobre Actividades Económicas, IAE), to yearly declarations, the keeping of business books and the preparation of invoices – the course provided the opportunity for the participants to clarify their doubts on these confusing concepts, as well as to apply their new knowledge to various different cases in exercises.

Despite the difficulty of the topic, the students fearlessly tackled the task of writing invoices and filling out documents for these test cases.

We are confident that they gained a lot from the course.

EIZIE would like to thank the participants and especially the instructor for making the course possible.

This course was funded by CEDRO (Centro Español de Derechos Reprográficos, Spanish Reproduction Rights Center).
