What is Nor da Nor?

Nor da Nor (Who is Who) is a Basque translation database, created by EIZIE. It is constantly updated, and includes information about translation, interpreting and proofreading.

The information is arranged around two main areas:

Translators

At the moment, the database includes information about translators, interpreters, and proofreaders:

  • Names of the translators who have translated from and into Basque, and full references to the works they have translated.
  • Detailed data of the members of EIZIE: their work fields, language combinations...
  • There is also an option to contact directly with these professional.

Translations

For the moment, the database gathers mostly literary translations:

  • Including children and young adults.
  • Translated both from and into Basque.
  • Translations published on paper and released only digitally.
  • Whole books (monographies), and also translations published in magazines, websites, blogs…  (poems, short stories, excerpts…).

In addition to the bibliographic data of these translations, the database provides access to the texts  as well as their reviews, if they are available online.

The search interface allows combining multiple search criteria. The translator's information can be obtained from their works, and vice versa.

Nor da Nor's contribution

As a relational database, this database collects information that has been scattered or unregistered, allowing searches that cannot be made anywhere else.

This project has received financial aid from Eusko Jaurlaritza (Basque Government), Gipuzkoako Foru Aldundia (Gipuzkoa Provincial Council) and CEDRO (Spanish Reproduction Rights Centre).
