Translating exile (literary translation workshop) - 2016
Workshop
Focusing on Arantxa Urretabizkaia's Koaderno gorria [The Red Notebook] and various poems by Joseba Sarrionandia, seven translators worked and exchanged ideas at Tabakalera (International Centre for Contemporary Culture) from June 20 to June 22. Using their own readings as a point of departure, they discussed the doubts, difficulties, and discoveries that arose when translating the selected passages into their own languages. Participants also examined the relationship that these two writers have had with translation, as well as the contributions of several translators who have translated these texts into Spanish. The main topic of the seminar is exile, from the point of view of literature, language, and translation.
Public presentation
On June 22, the last day of the seminar, they organised a roundtable presentation of the fruits of these three days, including a multilingual reading that will feature the sounds of eight different languages, accompanied by Xabi Strubell's guitar and voice.
