Call to select translators for the Itzultzaile Berriak (New Translators) programme
This year's participants will be French-speakers, but translators from Quebec will be given priority.
The Itzultzaile Berriak (New Translators) programme's main objective is to train international translators to work with Basque and to build bridges between them and Basque translators. This initiative started in 2016 as part of Donostia/San Sebastian European Capital of Culture's programme, and this year Etxepare Basque Institute is taking over in collaboration with EIZIE.
This year's participants will be French-speakers, but translators from Quebec will be given priority. Etxepare Basque Institute's selection process will choose two translators to be trained in Basque and work on the translation of Basque literature in depth with the help of a mentor. Besides, one of the translators will spend the month of July in the Basque Country. At the end of the project both translators will present their literary translations into French (two samples of around 30,000 characters), the objective being to promote Basque literature.
Candidates should apply before March 5th.
This is part of the Etxepare Basque Institute and the Quebec Culture and Communication Ministry's #QCPaysBasque 2020-2021 project.
