Abstract

Feminism and translation overlap in several areas, and the relationship between them can be approached from very different points of view, from the analysis of the conditions under which women translate to the mutual criticism of the philosophical categories within which both activities take place.

Feminism and translation share an important common element: language, essential in translation and a key aspect of feminist analysis.

Translation and women have been relegated to second position, forced into anonymity. Nevertheless, feminism somehow restores translation as a primordial activity, not only for communication and for the creation and recreation of identities, but also with respect to the centrality of the female translator in the translation process. Translation, in its turn, provides feminism a tool for analysis and the feminist transformation of society.
